China's "Most Beautiful" High-speed Railway Line

Hefei-Fuzhou High-Speed Railway (合福高速铁路) Starts Operation With a Journey Along China’s ‘Most Beautiful’ High-speed Railway Line! The Hefei-Fuzhou high-speed railway connecting east China's Hefei city and southeast Fuzhou city was put into operation on Sunday, shortening the travel time between the two cities from eight hours to within four. The G5602 bullet train, with a designed speed of 300km/h, spans three provinces, starting from Hefei—the capital of Anhui Province, and ends in Fuzhou—the capital of Fujian Province.

What’s more thrilling for people in China, however, is that the new railway passes through dozens of scenic sites across southeastern China, including three World Heritage sites—Mount Huangshan, Mount Wuyi and Mount Sanqingshan, and is thus hailed by many as “the most beautiful line” in the country.
Hefei-Fuzhou high-speed railway was the most difficult railway to build in terms of topography, with 85.8 percent of the track built on bridges or in tunnels, Ye Bingcheng, chief designer of the Hefei-Fuzhou Railway. As part of the longer high-speed railway between Fuzhou and Beijing, it cuts the travel time between the two cities from the original of more than 10 hours to less than 8 hours.
Crossing or running parallel to 16 other railways, the new railway will help cut travel time between Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province, and Hefei from 7 hours to 4 hours, cut the travel time between Nanchang and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, from the original 18.5 hours to 5 hours.

1. Mount Huangshan (黄山）(UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Located in eastern China's Anhui Province, Mount Huangshan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of China's major tourist destinations. The mountain is renowned for its grotesque rock formations, dramatic pines and seas of clouds especially when the mountain peaks are covered with snow in winter. It is a frequent subject of traditional Chinese paintings and literature, as well as modern photography.

2. Wuyuan county （婺源县）, Jiangxi Province
Hailed as one of the most beautiful villages in China, Wuyuan county in Jiangxi Province is a perfect option for canola field viewing in spring and attracts crowds of visitors across the country every April.

3. Mount Sanqingshan （三清山） (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Also in Jiangxi Province, Mount Sanqingshan is famous for its picturesque scenery and its rich culture of Taoism. It was included on the UNESCO world natural heritage list in 2008 for “exceptional scenic quality, marked by the concentration of fantastically shaped pillars and peaks: 48 granite peaks and 89 granite pillars, many of which resemble human or animal silhouettes.”

4. Mount Wuyi (武夷山）(UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Standing in the suburbs of Wuyishan city, Fujian Province, Mount Wuyi entered UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1999. It covers an area of over 630 square kilometers and most of the hills are made of red sandstone, very steep but have flat tops. Numerous types of tea are produced around Mount Wuyi and the most widely known is Dahongpao tea (a type of oolong tea).
